Jeremy Heykoop; son, brother, father, nephew, friend - took his life on Thanksgiving day, 2015, following a battle with PTSD. In the aftermath of his death, I started a non-profit organization called “Lighthouse For Veterans”, which was founded to help lead the fight and raise awareness for Veteran suicide in our community.
Our main goals:

Veteran Retreats: Providing several weekends a year for veterans to meet, while providing multiple types of therapy to help treat the symptoms of PTSD including equine and K-9 therapy, among other modalities; all at no cost to the veteran.

QPR Training: Learning the warning signs of suicide, focusing on suicide prevention and how to communicate with someone whom you think may be considering suicide.
The day Jeremy died, he became a statistic. Twenty-two Veterans are dying by their own hands every single day. Since Covid-19, Veteran suicides are up even more - some data showing an increase as much as 20%!
This next year, 2024, we are planning our 8th Annual Heykoop Veteran Memorial Car Show & Benefit, and we need you to help us - help our Veterans. As a nonprofit organization, 100% of our funds come from community members like you - and goes toward helping prevent and raise awareness for Veteran suicide.
We need Sponsors for our upcoming car show, as well as items for our silent and live auctions. Everything helps - every dollar raised could help save a Veteran’s life.Our Veterans need us. Our Veterans need you. Can you give generously for a great cause?
In our efforts to raise awareness for this worthy cause we also host an annual Bowling Tournament the Saturday before Easter and a Golf Tournament on the 3rd Saturday in August.

The 8th Annual Heykoop Veteran Memorial Car Show & Benefit is scheduled for Saturday, July 6th, 2024 at Hot Rod Harley Davidson in Downtown Muskegon. More information can be found on our website, or by following us on facebook.
