I am honored to invite you to join us for a truly special occasion – the 10th Annual Heykoop Veteran Memorial Car Show & Benefit, taking place on Saturday, July 4th, 2026, in Downtown Muskegon. This milestone event is especially meaningful as it falls on Independence Day, a day that celebrates freedom – something our Veterans have valiantly fought to protect.
Let me share the story behind our mission: Jeremy Heykoop, a beloved Marine, and West Michigan native, was a son, a brother, father, nephew, and friend – and he was my brother-in-law. He tragically lost his battle with PTSD and took his own life on Thanksgiving Day, 2015. In his memory, we held the first Heykoop Veteran Memorial Car Show & Benefit in July 2017, and I later founded Lighthouse For Veterans, a nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness and fighting Veteran suicide in our community. Our key initiatives include:
*Veteran Retreats: Multiple annual retreats offering therapeutic activities such as equine and K-9 therapy, among others – all provided free of charge to Veterans coping with PTSD.
*QPR Training: Educating the community to recognize the warning signs of suicide and empowering them with the skills to intervene and support those at risk.
The heartbreaking reality is that every day, more than 22 Veterans die by suicide. Since the onset of COVID-19, this number has risen, some research showing by more than 20%! Our mission has never been more urgent. As a nonprofit with no paid staff, 100% of your generous donations go directly to life-saving programs.
For our milestone 10th event, we’re seeking sponsors from $100 up to $5,000. Top sponsors will have their logo featured on multiple billboards across West Michigan, gaining wide community exposure during this high-profile event. We also appreciate donations for our auctions, raffles and fundraisers. Every gift, big or small, makes a real difference.
Together, we can honor Jeremy’s legacy and provide hope to Veterans who need it most.
