Two Thousand Twenty

Welp. I am not entirely sure how the last few months flew by, and it is already February of 2020! Rest assured that the crew here at Lighthouse For Veterans was not being lazy or resting during these past few months. We held our Annual meeting and added another Veteran to our Board of Directors, Army Veteran Todd Mclean.

In December we were contacted by an amazing family out of Whitehall, MI. The father of 15 year old Hayli reached out to me to see if we would be interested in doing a fundraiser at Whitehall High School. Hayli did a school project on Veteran suicide, and when she turned it in, her teacher asked her what she wanted to do to help prevent Veteran suicide. Her father Leo had come to one of our car shows in the past, and so between the two of them, they decided to host a large fundraiser - during the Whitehall vs. Montague Varsity Basketball Game.

We were blown away by this awesome family, and the support that we received at the game from everyone there. Hayli was able to raise just over $1000 to help fight Veteran suicide! We expect big things from Hayli - and her family. I think it's safe to say that you will be seeing more of them at our other events, especially the car show coming up in July. :-)

Check out this link to see the article that mlive did on the story.

We had a productive January Board Meeting, setting dates for most of our events for the 2020 year. Check out our updated website, now with all of our events listed with registrations under the Events page.

New this year is a Fishing Trip for Veterans. It's extremely limited, as we only have room for 5 Veterans. The idea is that we can get Veterans together for some camaraderie, and bonding time on the boat. Symptoms of PTSD can begin to subside pretty quickly when you are with like minded folks - when you feel at ease to discuss the issues and demons that haunt you.

We have set the dates for TWO Veteran Only Retreats - a Spring session and a Fall session. We have room for up to 12 Veterans at each retreat. Prepare to be spoiled! Veterans that come to our retreats eat - very well, get a custom tshirt made special for those who attend our retreats, get a goodie bag filled with various items that local businesses donate, and get to relax, refresh and reboot with their fellow brothers and sisters.

Don't miss our Newaygo car show! Much more low key than our July-Muskegon car show, but still tons of fun! The city of Newaygo blocks off two streets right behind the arts and crafts festival specifically for the car show entries. Everything is centrally located and is a great destination for your Memorial Day Weekend fun.

We also added some new merchandise to our store. Head over to the Store page on our website and you will find the new 2020 Calendar filled with West Michigan local vehicles. We also are excited to offer a new performance hoodie. These new hoodies are beautiful in red or blue, and are similar to the Under Armour hoodies you buy for $65+ - except you can get them starting at only $30! We also have new beanies, camp mugs, and some pretty sweet polos. Go check them out, and buy some swag! Remember, all proceeds go towards the fighting Veteran suicide!

Thanks for your support - we hope to see you at an event later this year!!
